Next Gathering 10th - 11th April 2009

Chief’s Thank you
May I express my sincere thanks to all who volunteered their time and effect to assist the Lower Clarence Scottish Association over the Easter weekend in the running of the 104th Maclean Highland Gathering. Approximately100 volunteers help us before, during and after the gathering. Without their assistance, our small committee would be unable to manage such a large programme of events.
I would also like to thank those who sponsor events. Local business and individuals give us great support as does the Media and Clarence Valley Council.
The success of the gathering is best judged by the competitive sportsmanship and goodwill of the competitors in the band contest, solo piping, drumming, highland dancing and heavy sports events. I thank the bands and solo competitors for their support.
Over the weekend competitors, visitors and locals renew old acquaintances and make new friendships which is what a highland gathering is all about. To this end the 104th Maclean gathering was a great success. Thank you all and I look forward to seeing you all at our 105th .

MACLEAN - The wee Scottish Town in Australia is a rural township nestled along the banks and hills of the beautiful Clarence River, on the North Coast of New South Wales. The town hosts the popular Maclean Highland Gathering held annually over the Easter weekend, celebrated this year on, Friday/Saturday, March 21st & 22nd 2008.

Maclean is only a short 15 minute drive away from the popular beach resorts of Yamba and Angourie. You will find Maclean a very friendly town and very proud of its Scottish Heritage. The town has a population of only 3,254, which swells to around 6,500 over the Easter weekend, when people flock to the town to attend the annual Highland Games. This year the town will explode with colour, sight and sound to mark the 104th Highland Games. The games are contested on the Maclean Showground, known as one of the most spectacular venues in the world to hold such a Highland event. This picturesque ground overlooks the river and mountains beyond, creating a picture that reflects the beautiful lochs of Scotland.
